(transfer>24bit FLAC files by Weave - Weave@furthurnet.org on 09/28/2003)
Mastering info: both FLAC files were converted to .WAV with FLAC v1.1.0 and loaded into Wavelab. X-Noise was used to remove the noise floor. This cassette sounded great, there was'nt much to deal with in terms of noise. The 2-band EQ was used first in the chain to roll-off below 55Hz (this helped reduce some of the impact of those boomy bursts of wind), the BBE Sonic Maximizer was used to "brighten" the top end, I had Process set to just below 3, Lo Contour at halfway to 1. The Blue Tubes LM2S topped it all off with final limiting and gain. The stereo 192KHz resampler was used for the sample rate conversion and UV22 HR was used for the dither when the files were rendered from 24-bit to 16-bits.
All edits and mastering performed in WaveLab on Doomtooth by shakedown 10/31/03
- shakedown@furthurnet.org
Anomolies: The recording is a little "boomy" in spots, and there are bursts of wind noise. There is also a weird phasi-ness which I attribute to poor stereo mic'ing and some wind at certain points, or maybe it's just people walking in front of the mics. I removed some "crackle" from points in YEM with the Waves X-Crackle. I used a crossfade to smooth over the tape flip. There is a dropout in Divided Sky, I smoothed it out with a fade. During Walk Away you can hear someone (the taper?) ask "where you gonna put it?" and something was placed in front of the mics, the phase of the recording is thrown off until after Walk Away. There was a cut/dropout in the crowd noise before Love You. It sounds like the taper may have moved the mics, as the bass is more present and there is a greater dynamic to the AUD.

As part of the Old School Phish Project, I have been scanning the tape covers, ticket stubs (if I have them) and the "Phish Update" newsletters (if I have them).
If you are interested, you can find them here:
http://guyforget.net/phishteam/oldschool_extras/
Each show has it's own folder. All the shows released so far are out there.
I've also included the MD5s and TXT files.
If you distribute these SHNs, please include these extras.
You can visit this forum for comments made during the transfer/mastering/listening process:
