Both the AKG and Shure source are better than the Nakamichi for shure. ;) I've only compared the first track, but Chalk Dust is my all-time favorite opener, so take that how you will.

As for a comparison between the two...the AKG is more distant and seems to be more echo-y. The Shure has a fuller sound and is definitely both louder and more bass heavy. The bass is also boomier with the Shure source. This makes the AKG source a little clearer in the bass realm, but the distant sound kind of washes out that advantage.

I'm going to have to give this one to the Shure source.

i haven't seen a better source for this show. Tom also ran this rig at the fall 95 Pitt Civic with suprising luck. i would say get this as there are not many other options. also remember up until maybe 97/98 Paul always ran a single Shure VP88 at the soundboard. that was the single mic we always saw at the board at least for a few years.
