THE OWEN BROTHERS VAULT
The Grateful Dead - 08NOV1970
Capitol Theater - Port Chester, NY
(AUD:Various sources )
Editing and Mastering by The Wizard - Owenbrothersvault@hotmail.com
This does not exist in the vault so this is the best that's out there...
This was drawn from at least three audience sources, Primarily Ken Lee's (MC>C>D>CD)
and Marty Weinberg's (MR>C>D>CD). Some of these sources have been mixed up a bit over the years
so I am not too worried about where each minute came from, I just tried to pick the best
sounding parts and make them a little better...
Acoustic Set - Primarily Lee's with patches
NRPS Set - Weinberg's - No patch source available.
First Electric Disc - Weinberg's with patches.
Second Electric Disc - Through Dancin' is Weinberg, rest Lee with patches (The second half of
Weinberg had bad bass saturation...)
This show required a good bit of work. All sources needed a Continuous Noise filter to take the edge
off the hiss. Each source was individually equalized to bring out the best in them.
Gain adjustments were made to bring everything in balance and about 200-300 loud
handclaps were removed from various parts. A lot of miscellaneous pops and
gliches were cleaned up. All patches were matched as best I could to the rest
of the songs sonic qualities.
All editing done with Diamond Cut DC5 software.

How is this different from the Warner seed? Is the Lee portion of Dancin through the end an upgrade to the Weinberg seed (which sounds pretty bad for that portion of teh show, which is strange because the earlier portions sound decent)

Hi Charlie,
Its just what I said in the text, I picked the best portions from all the sources then worked them to sound better... The Lee tape was a better starting point for the second half as the Weinberg that I had was saturated on bass... This is my thing, I find the best available sources then make them sound better! All that have listend to this think it sounds better...

If Ken and Judy Lee release this show as part of the PCRP and it sounds anything like 6/24/70, that will then become the definitive version.

I'm not Charlie Miller, but thanks for the reply. I've downloaded a few tracks from tol and am listening now. Certainly the mid-Dancin --> end of show portion of Weinberg's source needed an upgrade. Not sure yet about Weinberg's source up to that point. I think his source from the acoustic set (what there is of it, anyway) sounds pretty nice, so I'm undecided. Thanks for your work, nonetheless.
