Ahhhhh. Normal Illinois.
Long one of my favorite shows;
for some unknown reason it doesn't circulate much.
This show came to me on a DBX encoded reel in 1979.
I was told at the time that it was an edited dub off
the master reel, but listening to it critically,
there's too much hiss for that. I still have that reel,
transfered from it directly to dat. From Dat, it went
through a Digi96 card to my hard disk.
Sound Forge was used to normalize, anti-alias and resample to 44.1,
then CD WAV to track it out. Those WAV files were directly
converted to SHN.
I hope that spreading this copy causes an even better one to
arise out there, because this show deserves some attention.
It has never failed to stop the conversation at any gathering
where I've played it.
Enjoy!

The "Staying Alive" tease at the beginning of Me and My Uncle is worth the price of spending days downloading this show!! Oh yeah....sounds awesome too ;^)

Sound level changes throughout Big River. Personally I would have tracked this a little differently- I would have moved the cut between d1t1 and d1t2 a little earlier so the Staying tease would be at the beggining of t2.

The sound drops WAY down not only in Big River but also in Friend of the Devil. I don't have good enough software to fix this myself - does anyone know if the level changes are on the original master? I'm not too picky about sound quality, but even I can't stand to listen to it. Too bad. It really is a great show.

I'm pretty sure the only sbd version of this show that circulates was mastered by Betty on a cassette. I have a copy labeled MSC>DAT>C>DAT that also has a volume drop at the end of Big River, so I think that is on the master for some reason.

This is, in all likelihood, from the Betty cassette, not a master reel. The cut in Around and Around is identical to the one found in all existing, Betty-based sources. I have reason to believe a vault master exists, without the cut in A&A, and perhaps without the level fluctuations plaguing the first set. Let's hope so...
