there is some kind of audience mix in this recording. it sounds more
like a clean Sbd when levels are low but when the band is rocking it
mixes in some audience.
i spoke with some people who educated on what this may be. the mix is
kind of annoying between songs to the ear, but the music sounds great!
here is a quote from eric raimy on the situation of this recording:
First you need to know that the (old) Docksider is a very small bar.
Its
maybe 20ft wide and 200ft long. In addition to this it has a tin
ceiling
and this makes it a very noisy space. I'm almost positive that Brendan
did not use any audience mics for this tape but I think he did use
'gates'
on some of the microphones. Gates put a lower threshold on passing a
signal so if the source is too quiet, no signal is passed. Thus, when
the
band is raging all mics are passing signal and you'll get bleeding from
the noisy audidence that is no more than 5 to 10 feet from any
microphone
on the stage. In quieter sections, some mics may not have been passing
signal so there would be no or at least less crowd noise. This is my
theory of the peculiar sound of the tape.
disc 1:
1.Akimbo
2.Dr. Graffenburg > Havah Negilah
3.That Country Tune
4.Sensory Deprivation Bank
5.Happy Hour Hero
6.Seat Of My Pants

disc 2:
1.She Sends Me*
2.Timmy Tucker
3.Moth*
4.The It's A Real Good Year To Die Rag**
