the following was information supplied from taper extraordinaire on the possible lineage...

Subject: 3-23-74 History
My Dat is simply listed as FOB Aud (?) -> DAT(?)

I emailed Jerry Moore to see if he did it and this was his repsonse to me ... FWIW

Quote:
No, it's not my tape - I wasn't there, and the last copy I had was many years back - but I can give you some background information that might help.

A guy named Art supposedly recorded it on a Uher, but, reportedly, it didn't come out very well, and I think you can rule that one out.

My friend Louie Falanga recorded it on a Sony 110 with a Sony ECM 70 mike, and, from what I hear, his came out best. However, I've never heard it myself, and even Louie doesn't have a copy. I don't know whether it's in circulation, rather doubt it.

The most likely source, which was pretty widely circulated way back whem, was recorded by a guy named Charlie, don't remember the last name, from down Los Angeles or Santa Barbara way. He used a little Sony recording Walkman that was pretty new on the market then, don't remember the model number, but it was about as small as one could be made them, not a hell of a lot bigger than the actual cassette, and had a shiny silver finish.

It wasn't a stock unit, either, it had been modified, at least to the extent of upgrading to a better quality tape head, and may have had some electronic alterations also. Don't think he used the built in mike either, had some sort of clip-on mike instead.

And that's about all I recall.........
