Review:
"An hour's worth of acoustic music" according to Paul Barrere at the outset, this show takes off with the subtly different but pleasing sound of acoustic Feat (remember the days of plugged-in "MTV unplugged"?). Quickly, we are treated to Bonnie Raitt sitting in on Hate To Lose Your Lovin', her vocals coming through a bit weak unfortunately. Then things really get going when Jackson Browne sits in for Willin, and sings a great one - one of the highlights of the night. This is a very nice and unique version of Willin'. Ultimately - we get an equally rare treat in seeing Carlos Santana perform guitar solos to Dixie Chicken with the help of Bonnie and Jackson on vocals and the rest of the band.
Billed as "Healing The Sacred Hoop - The Next 500 Years", this show was a benefit for the International Indian Treaty Council and featured additional performances by Bonnie Raitt, Todd Rundgren, Don Henley, Ry Cooder & David Lindley, Cris Williamson, and Floyd "Red Crow" Westerman.
Recording Info:
Audience recording on a Sony D6C using a matched pair of Beyerdynamic 201-G mics. Sampled at 44.1K using 24 bits in SoundForge 8. No filtering or EQ. Dithered to 16 bit in Sound Forge 8. Tracks segmented in CD Wave. Flac 16 enc. level 6. The overall recording is reasonable quality for an audience, but there is a serious chatterhead too close to the mics during the first part of Down on The Farm which is a pretty annoying. It goes away after about 2 minutes but manages to spoil an otherwise nice sounding cut if you listen on headphones or have good stereo equipment.
