From a recent email from Edmund:

"Hey Terry. You're taking me back. Yes I just did a pass through with the r500 using it for the AD and then coaxial line in to the 2496 card into Samplitude 5.5 (i guess i forgot that part in the one you sent) which got me the WAV file to move forward with. I didn't do any editing with the files just tracked them out and flac'd them. I don't think I even knew how to use editing software or if Audacity was around back then. I put the r500 in record pause to do the pass through as you're right the r500 doesn't automatically pass through the signal like some decks. I did a bunch of transfers that way. I was leaving Seattle and moving back to VT and was concerned tapes might get damaged in the move so was trying to convert all the uncirculated phish that i had. Looking at my note the 1/95 means I got it in trade in Jan 1995. I used to swap a lot of cassette tapes with a lot of people. I think I got that one from a guy in Seattle Erik Knauer (sp) that i have known for a long time or it could also be from a guy in VT i traded with who was a cheese maker at the Grafter Cheese Company, which was weird bc i grew up in Grafton. I can't remember his name but I probably have it in my files someplace. Some of the conversions I did at that time Marmar put the files back together and did additional re-mastering or speed corrections and put out another version as I'm sure you can see. Hope that helps."
