This show was broadcast on TV ("TV From Tivoli", according to Dead Base in 3 pieces). DB makes no notes of missing material, nor does it state outright that all songs were necessarily broadcast.
Deadlists states that Video circulates namely "Casey Kasem's Goldmine" and "Anthem To Beauty". DL makes no mention of the Dark Star being in circulation (through those sources). DL also offers no timings for any material from this show. Indeed DL was last updated for 1972 in Jan. or 2000, so maybe an update their could provide more detailed info.
It appears that the video sources may all be a bit here and there. Maybe someone should pry loose the vault SBD and reseed this badboy. Till then, be glad someone seeded this at all.

request this show as a dicks picks if you'd like to see those songs come into circulation -- http://www.dead.net
Other than that, there is not much else that can be done unless someone seeds those songs.

Perhaps there are reels of film still sitting in the archives of Danish television including those missing tunes? Who knows how much of this was actually filmed, the entire show or just the circulating footage?

I?m pretty close to Denmark so i?d gladly pay a visit to Danish Television and investigate further! Seriously though, since this was broadcasted by French TV, does anyone know if it was also filmed by French TV or if it was a project by the Danish TV which was later distributed to and broadcasted in France?

It was filmed by Danish TV (DR). I will soon go to the
library and find some newspapers articles which
mentions this concert.

"RE 4/17/72 and others. As many know much of my collection came directly via Latvala over the course of many years. He and I were close friends. He sent me many of the europe 72 tour including the 4/17/72 show you speak of. Most of those were Jeff Norman rough mixes from the multi track tapes. When they were trying to find material for the Hundred Year Hall release they mixed down at least a dozen of them so Phil and Cutler could listen and chose the show. I've been asked many times from ALL involved in GD Productions not to release the multitrack stuff I have. If you remember a few years back when the multi track from 8/27/72 came out, I let that out and cought lots of flack from the office and Jeff for that and rightly so. I have since promised not to do it again. The GD want to insure that they have control over the things that are not in heavy circulation and I'm respecting their request. I know this bothers many but I will keep my word to them. Hopefully the complete 4/17/72 will see the light of day as an offical release. Peace" - Eaton

What is the purpose posting Eaton?s message? This show has been circulating for several years and until it is officially released (if ever) by GDM it is fully acceptable according to their policy (which was recently commented on as well) to keep circulating it. Would you care to explain further what you want to say by posting this?

I think the point is that the circulating source is missing the following songs: [Missing] Cold Rain And Snow, [Missing] Black Throated Wind, [Missing] Mr. Charlie, [Missing] Casey Jones, [Missing] Dark Star, [Missing] Sugar Magnolia, [Missing] Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks), and[ Missing] Johnny B. Goode, and that although Rob Eaton has the complete show via his tradings with Dick Latvala, he's promised GDP that he won't release 'em. Thus, these missing tracks will probably not appear 'till if/when this is released by GDP.

Just a few observations. This second Copenhagen 1972 show was filmed by the Danish Radio and not French TV. According to my list of Danish Radio progressive music programs, www.geocities.com/alrunen, there was three GD TV broadcasts in 1972. It has never since been rebroadcasted in Denmark. The first show was broadcasted live (30 minutes) and then two later broadcasts during august 1972 (45 min and 35 min). The dates are as follows:
April 17.: The Grateful Dead - Live (Color)
Playin? In The Band
Sugaree
One More Saturday Night
- The rest (?) of the titles unknown. I have 22 minutes audio from this broadcast, with the above titles.
- Produktion: Edmondt Jensen og Per M?ller Hansen
- Produktions nummer: 50004-6-1
August 12.: Giv tid, venner giv tid ! (Color, 45 min)
"Give time, Friends, Give time"
- Produktion: Edmondt Jensen
- Produktions nummer: 50005-4-1
August 25.: Koncerten forts?tter... (Color, 35 min)
"The concert continues"
It Hurts Me Too
Ramble On Rose
El Paso
Big Railroad Blues
Truckin'
- I believe the titles are from this show. This is to my knowledge the only of the three shows circulating on VHS as bootlegs from the danish archives. I assume that later French TV borrowed both of the two august broadcasts.
- Produktion: Edmondt Jensen
- Produktions nummer: 50316-9-1
In recent years the radiohouse has opened their archieves for projects like the Led Zeppeling DVD, Doors Soundstage DVD, and the recent American Folk and Blues Festival Vol. 3 DVD. I would assume that any serious approach about a GD DVD release would be taken serious, but I doubt very much that they kept anything else than what was originally broadcasted. I have included the original production numbers for the broadcasts.
Cheers,
C
