Jason, I was wondering about this new FOB seed? What's the difference between this source and shnid# 84943 besides the deck? Could you help us out on the sound that's represented here in this file set?

there are several differences. First of all, with SHNID 84943, the schoeps mk4 caps were run directly into an "nbox", which is a custom made box that powers the schoeps caps directly, with schoeps microphone bodies. From there, the signal was sent to a Sony SBM-1 A/D converter, which then sent a digital signal to the DAT deck.
In this case, the schoeps mk4 caps were powered directly by a Sonosax SX-M2 pre-amp (again, no schoeps bodies were used). the signal then went analog to the Teac DA-P20, and the internal A/D on the Teac was used.
So we have two different pre-amps being used and two different A/D converters. Most significant, however, is the fact the these two FOB tapes were made by two different people at two different locations. The exact location will probably have the largest effect on the sound. But, there's no real way to know how the two sources will compare except by doing a side by side comparison.
Hope this helps.
