Patch Info:
(FOB) Sony ECM200T -> Cassette Master -> Dat -> CD supplies:
Fire On The Mountain (0:29 - 0:50)
Drums (6:19 - 6:26)
Throwing Stones (0:01 - 0:17)
Touch Of Grey (last 4 seconds)
One More Saturday Night (complete song)

Notes:
-- Set 2 is seamless
-- Can not confirm SBD lineage 100% accurate
-- Sound changes after each tape flip
-- Bass boosted on patch source
-- Source discs were havily EQ'd, I tried to fix it

I received 3 CDs which were definitely SBDs and the number of tracks shown by
Windows Media Player matched the number of tracks listed above as did all
Patch Info.

What is the significance of this torrent relative to shnid: 88149. This one looks to have an extra EAC gen. If I am reading the lineage correctly it also appears to have been extracted using Windows Media or possibly played through windows media player into Audigy.... Not sure I understand the reasons for a seed of this source since the CM fileset already exists prior to this source.

This is much worse than an extra EAC gen. If you look closely at the lineage (which is stated rather plainly), Charles received CDs from a friend. He played them in Windows Media Player, and captured the resulting music with SB Audigy. Because he had configured Windows Media Player to insert gaps between the tracks, he used Sound Forge to remove those gaps. Then he used CD Wave Editor to retrack the source. Then he used flac to compress the wav's. And then, to save himself some postage, rather than just mailing the files back to his friend, he decided to create a new SHNID for this and use bt.eTree to transport the music home.

The Windows Media Player > Audigy step is lossy.

So, this is much worse than an extra EAC, this is a lossy copy of a CM SBD.

Everyone know the addage about opinions. The folks who downloaded this are happy. If you are not, that is your problem.

I believe that any coversion from analog to digital is lossy. You can always take one more sample. LPs are making a come back.

I look at the 'new' lineage and all I can say is WTF????

it's true, other3. analog > digital and digital > analog conversions are always lossy.

that's why all listeners will prefer 88149 (which has analog > digital) to this source (which has analog > digital > analog > digital).

I assume the folks who are downloading this fall into three camps: your friend, naive people who don't realize they're downloading an inferior source, and SHNID collectors who will download anything with a SHNID. certainly this source will amuse the SHNID collectors.

I guess someone wants their name in the database ... Who cares if it's pollution they're putting out to do it ...

The torrent has been banned from bt.etree.org. Charles B. and I have had conversations about this sort of thing before and, unfortunately, the "don't seed this stuff to bt.etree" message seems to have been forgotten.
