He had a fake palm tree up on the stage. The show was simulcast by KGB-FM. We had an 8 track recorder and I instructed my little brother who was 18 at the time how to set it up so he recorded it off the radio while I attended the show. It was a great show. Him and three guys. When he referenced San Diego in a couple of songs there was a vocal reaction from the audience. I'm a big fan and have heard many of his shows. This is probably my single favorite. I listened to this tape for years. I'd recorded a copy from the 8 track onto cassette. About 2001 a Waits fanatic I met online happened to come to San Diego so we both looked for the old 8 track and couldn't find it. Bummer. So he took the tape, which, unfortunately and mysteriously, I don't know what I was thinkin', didn't have the full show on it. It's missing maybe 4 or 5 songs. So he transferred the tape onto cdr. Before this copy became available to the trading world there was only like one super fanatic who had about 15 minutes of the show and wouldn't trade that with anyone. I'm delighted to share this with the trading world, like most of us are. I love this show.
