This was actually a Farm Aid Concert, instead of a Willie Nelson Picnic!
What a mess of a concert. They changed the site of the concert several times. They finally choosing the in-field of a horse track.

Traffic was a usual disaster when you send 50-70 thousand people into a venue made for 4 thousand max. We left hotel in downtown Austin at 7am, and spent the next 6 hours in a crawling traffic jam. Sea of cars trying to get into a horse track on a 2 late country road.
Sound system crapped out several times during the afternoon and some of the people sitting halfway back had brought transistor radios. The show was broadcast on radio so we were listening to the show on the radio.
Temperature was between 102-105 degrees.

Lots of craziness going on in the audience that cannot be discussed in this venue.
We eventually realized the only thing to do was get really stupid drunk and have fun!
It worked!
Neil played a very short, but energizing set unfortunately since there were so many bands on the bill.
I wish I could remember a few of them. I only remember George Jones, Willie Nelson & John Cougar Mellonhead.
Over all it was a lot of fun.
We tried to stay for Stevie Ray Vaughan, but the heat, Wild Turkey, hot Beer, dust, dirt, overturned port-O-lets had taken its toll.
Attempted to find our car in a field the size of Connecticut.
Made it back to the Hotel to find the concert was being broadcasted on local TV. We looked at each other and thought we could of adjusted stayed in the hotel room. But of course its all about the experience, right?
We positioned the TV near the window of hotel and watched Stevie Ray Vaughn tear it up while we relaxed in swimming pool with a ?COLD? beer.

This would be my second to last Willie Nelson Picnic/Farm Aid. The following years Picnic at Carl?s Corner put me in to retirement as far as outdoor Festivals are concerned.
Would I do it all over again, Oh hell yes but I would bring a roll of toilet paper this time.
