This show happened at this little bar-type place called The Crypt back in the spring of 1974. I saw posters of this band and, being the curious young guy I was then, I went to the club during the show.
Devo was four guys wearing doctor's robes, and I think the singer had tampons attached to his coat. Their set was absolutely bizarre. Right as they went into the first number, I could feel my senses being assaulted. It sounded like nothing of this Earth. The venue started clearing out during the third or fourth song, but I was too shell-shocked to even think about walking out. The band eventually got unplugged by the promoters, and I walked out with whoever else hadn't left yet.
A couple years later Devo started playing again in Akron, and they had changed a lot. They played at the Crypt a lot during 1976, and I decided to see what they'd done in two years. They'd gone from this completely sideways computer music to a more accessible genre that was like punk with synthesizers in the mix.
I started following Devo after that. They turned out great, I went to a lot of shows, but none of them were quite like that '74 gig, and none ever will be.

It is the earliest known DEVO show in circulation. The versions of "Fraulein" and "Midget" are drastically different from those you may be familiar with.
