I've never been to a bad UBU show. This was no exception. Each year, each period, is a variation, a new exploration of their musical field of study so to speak. This was an all new band with David Thomas, everyone in their 20's or 30's it appeared, with, of course, the exception of Thomas who even dedicated a song to us old punx. His keyboardist used a therimin type instrument (hand over it makes 'wavy' cool sounds) that he actually constructed himself. We were fascinated by that. It had a computer keyboard as part of it. I couldn't shake the impression that Thomas was the kinda guy who has a dominant presence in a band. He got a bit snippy for moments, much as I've seen him do in basically all the other 4 or 5 other shows I've seen 'em. Course, however this band functions, it works, particularly live. The drummer was the same guy who played w/ ROCKET FROM THE TOMBS in their reincarnation, very good drummer. Right after the show Thomas sat down on the stage and began hawking his UBU wares and giving a firm handshake and a smile to everyone who approached him.
