Led Zeppelin Sydney Showground Feb 1972

I was there, I taped the show. The first two songs are missing because the Police had us behind fences and I suggested to the crowd, when the band starts we rush over the fences and the Police will not be able to stop us. It worked.

However, I became separated from the person who owned the tape recorder (National mono) and had the camera, so I did the best I could. We were in the middle in front of the stage, more luck than good planning and I held the microphone for the 4 hours they played their butts off with no support act. The Tickets were $4.

The 4th Album had just been released, so it was an excellent time to see them, while they were still young and had not been swept up with what happened to them in USA.

They played an acoustic set somewhere in the middle with songs from the III LP. Gallows Pole etc. At the end, Robert said now John Paul Jones is going to play the (Hammond) organ for you and it was stunning, he played sounds like aeroplanes crashing into the earth.

My favourite part of the concert aside from the stunning experience of seeing a guitar god play Dazed and Confused etc, was the medley in the middle of Whole Lotta Love, I think it was Miss Clawdy etc. Jimmy played the old rock n roll so beautifully.

Since then I have had the tapes repaired and converted to digital, I'm very sorry about the damage that occurred over the years, but most of it is there.

I hope this helps.

*The first two opening songs " Immigrant Song & Heartbreaker " were not recorded by the Taper.

The minor cut at the end of "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp" is due to the cassette tape running out during recording of the concert.

"Since I've Been Loving You" and "Celebration Day" that followed "Black Dog" were recorded but accidentally dubbed over years latter (The intro to "Stairway To Heaven" was also dubbed over)
.It is conservatively estimated that had all the songs been documented the actual concert length would have been timed at approximately 170 minutes, thus making this performance one of their
longest sets for this period."

This newly surfaced source is a major upgrade over what was previously in circulation.
