Show Reviews
This the first time that I had seen 'Mr Lucky', John Lee Hooker. It was in a little club in Isla Vista (near Santa Barbara and where the UCSB campus is located). The Anaconda used to be the Graduate, and before that it was a Bank Of America that ended up getting torched during the Vietnam War, from what I'm told. I saw two shows at the Anaconda, this one and Bo Diddley a month or two later. At one of those shows, I can't remember which, I saw a blind man taping with Nakamichi CM-300s out in the open. Strange. John Lee Hooker put on a good show, but you could tell that in years past he had more energy. He did a lot of vocals and not that much of his signature 'slashing' guitar work. Still, it was good to see a legend. I used my little Aiwa CM-30 stereo cardioid mic with the D6 because i didn't know if I could get away with the Nakamichi CM-300s. I wish now I would have used the Nakamichis but the tape still sounds pretty good, even by todays standards. He played for about an hour and then signed autographs. My friend Dave got an album signed. Good show, good recording.
