I'm really glad that I got to see this show. I'd been listening to KPIG and they had been playing a lot of McMurtry trying to hype the show, so I really wanted to see this guy. What an awesome storyteller McMurtry is. I still shudder when I listen to 'We Can't Make It Here Anymore.' Very cutting lyrics about the state of our country. I hadn't been to the Graduate in a while so it was nice to see a show there again. James played a great set. The sound was awesome and the vocals are very clear in the recording, which sounds great, even though my friend 'Parts' Paul tried to get my attention late in the show by calling my name between songs. I especially liked Chockta Bingo. Again, this guy has a amazing way of stringing words together to weave his stories, which are basically about the struggles of poor working class people in today's economic and political world. I wish I could have traveled up to see him the following night in San Francisco. I was fortunate enough to find a used copy of 'Childish Things' at Boo Boos in SLO a few days later.
