(Hard Rock Live 1999) Cable Broadcast > HiFi VHS @ SP > HD > Dime Here is a great compilation from my collection. I taped all of these when they were broadcasted originally. If you have never seen the Crowes SNL appearances download this: they are great! You get a bunch of great performances here but the best thing I can say is if you want some kicking rock-n-roll don?t miss this! These are more-or-less in chronological order. Most are excellent quality but the cable reception was bad in 1999 here, lol. Enjoy!

09/22/85 Memorial Stadium, University of Illinois DVD 1 Shares disc with Farm Aid II 7/4/86 Bon Jovi - Farm Aid I - September 22nd, 1985 Memorial Stadium, University of Illinois, Champaign, Illinois, USA 1. Runaway 2. Heart of America FARM AID I Bon Jovi was the very first artist at the very first Farm Aid back in 1985, they opened the show in front of a half filled stadium, and the initial audio really shows the crazy high winds that day. Within a few seconds the MTV folks fix the audio and Bon Jovi give it thier all. They played thier only real hit to that point "Runaway" and then do a tune Jon and Richie wrote just for the event. Heart of America impressed Willie Nelson so much he invited the band to record it for release at his own studio. Now you can take your pick from three possibilities of what happened next depending on which story you believe A.) the bands management and willie's management couldn't come to an agreement so it was never released and later lost B.) the band and willie "recreated" to the point that the track never got finished but a great friendship was begun C.) Willie had a fire at his studio and the master was destroyed. In any case the song was only ever played for an audience once and it is a great tune.Source: VHS#179 early 90's aquired from Japan taper from Satellite in Japan Format: NTSC 4:3 720x480 XDVD 29.959fps 1000kpbs AC3 48KHZ 156kb/s audio Fully Authored xdvd with chapters in TMPGEnc DVD Author 2.0 These are very rare recordings, I looked for a taper to trade with for them for 5 or 6 years. I finally found a taper from Japan who recorded nearly everything on MTV for years and was able to arrange a trade. Prior to that I had only VERY poor copies that were nearly unwatchable. What makes these rare is that MTV in NY City had a big fire that destroyed thier video archives in late 1986 and both of these recordings no longer have a Master as they were destroyed in that fire.
07/04/86 Maynard Downs DVD 1 Shares disc with Farm Aid I 9/22/85 Bon Jovi - Farm Aid II - ARM AID II This stands out for few reasons. It is the first time since forming Bon Jovi in 1983 that Jon performed live in public without his band. For this performance he plays with Willie Nelson and a bevy of talented studio players. He then backs up Vince Neil and a very high Joe Walsh on vocals and guitar. This was also the last show Jon played before hitting the road in support of the soon to be Multi-Platinum Slippery When Wet.Source: VHS#179 early 90's aquired from Japan taper from Satellite in Japan Format: NTSC 4:3 720x480 XDVD 29.959fps 1000kpbs AC3 48KHZ 156kb/s audio Fully Authored xdvd with chapters in TMPGEnc DVD Author 2.0 These are very rare recordings, I looked for a taper to trade with for them for 5 or 6 years. Clear picture quality and decent sound, though not as vibrant as the full show audience recording released via bittorrent recently. This is, however, a good audience camcorder show that's worth having, particularly given the lack of material issued so far from this tour. The soundfile on the DVD is in PCM stereo. 11/??/94 The Bluegrass Sessions DVD 1 Phish - Bluegrass Sessions w/ Jeff Mosier "1994 Fall Tour Journal" This has already been called the "Holy Grail" of Phish Videos. This is a FREE, NON-PROFIT home movie of Phish Backstage. Total running time, just over an hour. The Rev. Jeff Mosier (Blueground Undergrass) was contracted by Phish in the Fall of 1994, to help them learn Bluegrass. They flew him to Michigan and Gordon picked him up in a limo, and they had their first lesson on 11-14-94, same night as Grand Rapids. With his Blessing (and our extreme appreciation), the footage he shot of this whole experience, backstage and onstage, was remastered and is now being shared. He emailed me the following beautiful letter (a must read), to include with this torrent: "After 11 years I pull out this video and look back in awe at the bravery and spirit of these four guys called "Phish". I taped the sessions so they could watch it back as part of our lessons and so I could learn some of their tunes as well. I met them in 89 during my days with ARU. The video was shot to aide in teaching them how to work around one mic and to show them that their feet weren't tapping ! Hee. They had a real desire and hunger to learn bluegrass the old fashioned way. I think we infused alot of laughter and zambi like joy together which helped them create their own humble approach to bluegrass. It was like old times back with ARU. At the time I was working with Alzsheimer's patients and doing alot of theatre. In 93' I had played with them in Atlanta at the Roxy, but I had no idea how "big" they had gotten since then. "Hoist" was great for bluegrass music. Time will only tell what influence Phish's interest in bluegrass did to forward the progression of bluegrass experimentation that continues in the music until now through so many bands that got their "call of permission" from Phish. Like "Old and in the Way" did to forward the music to new fans, "Phish" took it to the next generation by including bluegrass in just a few shows in these few shows. "Jerry affected" music is what I call the music of the GD. I think we are all "Grateful Dead cover bands" of sorts whether we admit it or not, once we realize that the GD created a genre and were not just a band. Phish kept it going like nobody else had ever done or may ever will. We owe them much for keeping that spirit alive. This footage speaks volumns to the child like joy that must exist inside of music and inside of bands. Their curiosity for something new, continuing education, playing new instruments, and respect for the pioneers of the genre, gave Phish the credibility they needed to "pull off" bluegrass in front of thousands of reverent and loving fans. This is for those fans. The real fans. This is for all people who love and understand the civilizing power of music. This is to inspire thousands to hopefully upgrade their life by simply learning to play a musical instrument. Phish did this tour and this music without any concern over "bluegrass chops" or any concern over their own ego. They even "Phished" bluegrass with that wonderful vibe they have. They didn't have to do bluegrass, but they did. They laughed at themselves and we had some of the greatest laughs and times I have ever had. This time with them rekindled my own desire to play rock again and helped me really appreciate bluegrass, even though I had grown up with it. The true spirit of "Hamptonian Zambi Vibe" was there on every level ! May it simply inspire you. Let music into your life like they did. Learn music. Live the music. It can save you on every level and it can save this fear ridden planet and give us all hope again. Like nothing else on earth music is drugs." Tweezer Reprise There was a strange white canvas ball hanging from the ceiling, on which various images were projected during the show. #During the song, fried eggs, udder balls, and olive loaves were projected on the canvas (in reference/relating to last night's narration). This was followed by the countdown and a balloon drop at midnight. The balloons broke both Page's and Mike's mics. ^With a "Birdland" (Weather Report) tease. $Page sang this Frank Sinatra cover (first time played). Notes on the DVD: This video suffers from some of the same type of problems that 12.30.97 does (same cam, same room, one night later) They are not as rampant as on 12.30 and they are confined to small periods of time. The video is dark in general though and concentrates on Trey mainly with a little bit of Page and a minimal amount of Mike and Fish (even darker to that side) I want to send a specific thank you to the taper, You are appreciated endlessly. As long as i'm thanking people, thanks to Chris for another fantastic aud and Jim for the tape. I would recommend downloading this
