Notes: One of the most important groups in early '90s pre-Brit-pop England, Saint Etienne were the first to turn the British music scene back to the pop aesthetic of the '60s while combining it with danceable club beats. The return to the three-minute ear candy format heavily influenced the early beginnings of the Brit-pop movement that similarly copped the breezy melodies and simple song structure from '60s pop music. Saint Etienne began in Croydon, Surrey, England with the collaboration of two childhood friends, Bob Stanley (who, before Saint Etienne was a music journalist) and Pete Wiggs. The band is named after a French football team. Shortly after the release of their first album, "Fox Base Alpha", Sarah Cracknell, who had appeared on the majority of the album's tracks, became the permanent vocalist in the group. This is a great show. Guaranteed to get your lady friend in the mood, hey Ed?! There is one minor pop between the intro and the second track. Thanks for the great find Ed, and the great notes!
