Notes: Pink Floyd Altes Casino(?) Montreux, Switzerland September 19(?), 1971 Disc 1 1. Echoes 2. Careful With That Axe, Eugene 3. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun Disc 2 1. Cymbaline 2. Atom Heart Mother 3. A Saucerful of Secrets Here's a DAT I acquired in a trade several years ago. Although it was labeled by the trader as "Altes Casino 09-19-1971 Reels>PCM>DAT," it could be one of the versions of 1971-09-18 listed at <http://www.pf-db.com/index.php?list=years&choice=1971> The DAT *was* recorded at 48K, which argues against its being a CD clone. Reels>PCM>DAT(48K)>DAT2WAV>WAV(48K)>SSRC-HP>WAV(44.1K) Tracks split with Wave Repair, sector boundaries verified, FLACed at level 8.

Notes: New to circulation is a first generation transfer from the soundboard reels of this famous recording of the early Floyd. The common roio in circulation is the White Witch/Black Wizard, but this is taken from a lower generation recording, and sounds richer, fuller, and has less hiss. A speed correction was necessary however, as the recording runs quite slow. The excellent speed correction done by the WW/BW producer was used as reference for track timings, and ultimately a speed correction of 4.5% was utilized.

Notes: "White Witch" Vol.2 Sources: 18 Sep 1971, Montreux, Switzerland 18/19 Sept '71 Altes Casino, Montreux, Switzerland (Festival de Musique Classique) Tracks: Disc: 2 1. Cymbaline 13:03 2. Atom Heart Mother (w/orch) 31:49 3. A Saucerful Of Secrets 21:11 Total Time: 66:07 Band: Rick Wright Nick Mason David Gilmour Roger Waters Xref: Live In Montreux 1971 Quality: Ex+ Comments: Vol. 2 of the concert, Vol. 1 is Black Wizard. An excellent audience recording, every instrument is "there" all the time, almost as good Smoking Blues, just a notch below. (still sounds as good as Ummagumma ;-)) ASOS is a very 'grating', AHM is a bit too long and not as good as when they do it by themselves (IMHO). The footsteps in Cymbaline are loud and clear. There are no cuts between the tracks, which I really like. The whole cd is half a step down, but you don't really notice it unless you're playing guitar along with it. I haven't heard Live At Montreaux, but I guess this is the same sound quality, etc... Essential listening for any Floyd fan. note: i also have (Speed Corrected Series 002) Original off by 3.5%
