Notes: Original Lineage: A(0)->HiFi VHS->DAT(2)->SHN New Lineage: A(0)->HiFi VHS->DAT(2)->SHN-->Wav->ACL11->Wav->Flac7 Considered best source for this date. This source ran slow and had an occasional tick/crackle that apparently is not unusual for HI-FI VHS sources. Also, when Breathe first kicked in the taper was readjusting his levels which was a bit disruptive. Speed corrected +3.0%, Removed most of the occasional ticks/crackles, smoothed levels of first 12 seconds of Breathe. Applied very slight EQ, very slight NR, and smoothed a few tape starts since taper was stopping between some tracks. Also ended Set1 after AHM since this is where they took their break.

Notes: Pink Floyd 20-Jan-1972 The Brighton Dome Brighton, England A(0)->HiFi VHS->DAT(2)->SHN Rating: EX- (IMHO YMMV) 1. Speak to Me 2. Breathe 3. Travel Sequence 4. Time 5. Breathe Reprise 6. Mortality Sequence (Preacher's Version) 7. Money 8. Atom Heart Mother 9. Careful With That Axe, Eugene 10. One of These Days 11. Echoes 12. A Saucerful of Secrets Comments: Speak to Me: Some guy talking during the opening. He seems very impressed. The volume fluctuates at the transition into the Breathe. Breathe: Vocals clear and up front. Very nice Travel Sequence: Very nice, almost 8 minutes long. Pause between Travel Sequence and Time, not a gap, there's still hiss, just silence for a few seconds. Time: Again, very nice. Nice, delicate guitar works before the lyrics begin. They have a little trouble with the harmony in the vocals but what the heck, this is the first performance. Lyrics are clear but slightly more distant than Breathe. Breathe Reprise: No lyrics, I miss Home, Home again... It's just an instrumental at this point with the lead guitar where the lyrics should be. Mortality Sequence: Lyrics are a bit distant but this may be by design. Annoying buzzing sound begins about 3:40 into the track. The cash register sounds for money start. Money: Cash Register comes to front, annoying buzzing fades (mostly). No lyrics, they finally just trail off and the damn buzzing noise comes back. Waters announces that due to "Severe mechanical and electrical horrors” they can't do and more "of that" but they will do something else. Atom Heart Mother: Quality returns big time. Whatever was making the buzzing sound is gone and we're back to a nothing more than a light hiss. Careful with That Axe, Eugene: This is supposed to help dissipate the audience’s “built up adrenalin”. The building tension of CWTAE doesn’t seem to be a good sedative. A nice version of a personal favorite. One of These Days: Interesting version. The quality remains the same as the other tracks. Some minor left/right fluctuations at about 6:20. Echoes: This is the B side of our latest release, it’s called Echoes. No opening pings, just very soft piano under the hiss. There are a few pops here and there. They sound like equipment issues rather than DAE clicks. Ah, the harmony is much better here, perhaps they’ve had more practice with this one. Saucerful of Secrets: Sorry, not a favorite of mine, e.g. I won’t listen to it. Quality seems the same at the rest of the recording. Overall: Light hiss throughout. This is really amazing, it's actually a pleasure it listen to with the exception of the buzzing during Money. Track transitions are a bit rough; perhaps the taper is turning off his deck between tracks to save tape/batteries/etc. Disc 2 initially seems a bit short with only two tracks but total time is about 44 minutes.

Applied very slight EQ, very slight NR, and smoothed a few tape starts since taper was stopping between some tracks. Also ended Set1 after AHM since this is where they took their break. I rarely use NR and I am not adverse to typical low gen analog hiss since I grew up with it. I made an exception here after getting a good hiss sample and conservatively applying it. The spectrograph showed little music beyond 10k and I left more than 2k of buffer above the music. The result is perhaps a 30% reduction in hiss.

Notes: B. Cooper's recording of the first ever performance of Dark Side Of The Moon (converts to 2 audio discs) This version starts about 2 minutes later than most other copies with the reference to Ephesians. I think it sounds better than the VHS transfer which lacks definition and the two source compilations. I find it to have better high end, detail and ambience than my kbrubaker source, for example. A good point to make a quick comparison is the opening to track 11. Careful53 received his tapes from Steve B. Steve taped the 20 February Rainbow Theatre concert and was a schoolfriend of Mr Cooper. My thanks to Bert13 for speed correcting my transfer. He applied the following values. Side A tracks 01-08: 94.8 - 97.2 gliding shrink Side B tracks 09-11: 96.2 shrink Side C track 12: 96.4 shrink Careful53 cassettes / Neonknight tape transfer, January 2017
