To celebrate Women in Blues, Sunday, July 6, Portland guitarist Sonny Hess rounded up a great revue of Northwest blues women, including: LISA MANN on bass and vocals, drummer SUE ORFIELD, vocalists KID LOPEZ, LINDA HORNBUCKLE, MEGAN JAMES, LADY KAT, & special guest, MARIANNE MAYFIELD.
Originally from San Francisco, Mayfield was a fixture on Portland's jazz and blues club circuit through the '70s and '80s, working as both a vocalist and bassist with such Rose City stalwarts as drummer Mel Brown, pianist Geoff Lee, and bassist Leroy Vinnegar. Mayfield spent a decade in Hawaii, gigging regularly in the island clubs as well as appearing at major events like the Maui Jazz Festival before returning to Oregon in 2001.
