| Notes: | This is a classic show. Tom gets heckled by a woman during the show and, that alone makes it classic. BUT, this is also a GREAT performance amazing version of 'Burma Shave'. Sound is pretty good B+ it is a FM recording. Artwork is included. MP3 samples to follow... I am capped at 40 kb/s. This will probably take 3-4 hours to complete. | |||||

Summertime > Putnam County > Spare Parts II Performers: Tom Waits - Guitar, Piano, Vocals Frank Vicari - Tenor Saxophone Chip White - Percussion, Vibraphone Danny Trifan - Upright Bass Notes: Though it's an audience recording, the recording quality here is very good. The sound is up front and the instruments well-mixed, almost sounding like it was taken from the soundboard. The close proximity to some very drunk patrons leads me to believe that this was taken from the audience, though to many less critical listeners, it would pass for a board. There's a good amount of tape hiss, which is why it doesn't rate as an A. Also, over the course of the tape, there are a handful of dropouts and other analog artifacts, but they're never terribly distracting. The performance is spectacular: both Tom's and the band playing a fun and improvisational show. The vocals are spot-on, the band's solos are loose and interesting, and the flow of the songs is spectacular. The 7 minute jazz improv section at the end of the show, with solos from each band member, is refreshing (as well as rare for a Waits concert). The use of vibes in most of the songs is a great touch, and something that Tom's done rather sparsely in his career. I consider this show to be a standout, and though the tape isn't perfect, it's a highly recommended bootleg. -The RainDawg, www.audiophilia.net | |||||
