Notes: Missing 'Sheep', Shine On You Crazy Diamond 1-V', & 'Money' Encore. Trade CD >FLAC (Level 8) Via xACT 2.37 ('Live In Anaheim' Bootleg LP) Better Sound than Some Bootlegs Of This Show, Which Is Known For An Extremely Bad Crowd.) From collectorsmusic.com: The May 6th show has two audience recordings. The first surfaced on vinyl in the seventies as the famous California Stockyard (On The Road) (PF400 – PINK I&II A/D & PF200). This was a two LP set with most of the show (“Sheep”, “Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 1-5″ and the encore “Money” are missing) and was reissued many different times. [The second source was released on CD only many years later.] [Bootleg CD label] Sirene includes this audience source on disc five of this set and also on the bonus cdr with the cover from the old vinyl. This is copied from vinyl and contains obvious surface noise but is still very good and clear and the best sounding tape in this collection. This is a great concert occurring right before the famous Oakland shows at the end of the first half of this tour. It is unfortunately plagued by one of the rowdiest audiences captured on tape. Fighting erupts during “Dogs” and the chaos continues throughout the entire show. Before the intermission Roger says, “Stop fighting. It’s hard to play when you’re all beating the shit out of each other.” Nothing really improves in the beginning of the second half with constant shouts and a sizable section of the audience going into a “down in front” chant during “Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 1-5″. “Welcome To The Machine” pacifies the audience somewhat (I guess the drugs were kicking in) and the band delivers a better show to the end. There is a bouncy and happy solo in “Have A Cigar” that sounds very strange but appealing. Gilmour’s and White’s jamming at the ten minute mark in “Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 6-9″ has been singled out for praise and it is good. “Money” contains a very subdued guitar solo and ends with Roger Waters’ goodnight and good byes. There is no evidence they played the second encore “Us & Them”. A very good show despite the insanity going on in front of the band.”

Notes: Artist: Pink Floyd Venue: Anaheim Stadium Anaheim, California Date: May 6th, 1977 Label: Man of Leisure Music (MoLM) www.molm.org Title: Reap the Harvest Source: Smokey in Montreal Format: One (1) shn CDR (orig. codes below) Transfer to disc by Smokey, from his excellent copy of the original pressing of "California Stockyard." Minor edits performed by Flynn of Man of Leisure Music. Originally produced by Slipped Discs Records*. Though incomplete, this recording has very good sound quality and fewer audience intrusions than other recordings of Anaheim & most US concerts. A refreshing departure from tapes with people always yelling "sit the @#$% down!" Dave's jamming with Snowy and Rick about 10 minutes into SOYCD 6-9 makes this worth getting all by itself. There are some annoying flaws in some sections of the recording, and a few pops and clicks, but overall, the source vinyl is in very good shape. Recording levels were also a bit of a handful to deal with. There's a bumping noise here and there, especially noticable during Have a Cigar and at the beginning of SOYCD 6-9. Since I own a more worn original pressing, a 1st gen tape and 1st gen CDR, and borrowed a re-pressing, I can tell you the noise is inherent in the recording. Pretty sure they are pressing flaws. You'll forget all about them. A special thanks goes out to several PF Traders who offered their rare, forbidden vinyl for this project, especially Smokey, Paul and Gonzo. It gave me a chance to really learn more about this roio. Also, a huge thanks to the folks who make Floydartifacts the best Floyd list on the web. It only took one e-mail posted to the list to get four offers to loan me a vinyl copy, and two offerings of CDR transfers taken from good vinyl. Floydartifacts traders get to reap the harvest they have sown. There were two (2) re-issues of this vinyl. Both re- issues are missing PotW pt2. All three pressings have the sets reversed. Sound quality of the first pressing substantially better SQ than second and third pressings. In fact, the re-issues come from a poor recording of an audibly worn original. Bummer. The pressing to look for is a blank white jacket with a yellow paper jacket wrapper with red print. Front half of jacket wrapper shows a man walking a bicycle on a highway ramp with an object identical to what is on the 1975 Knebworth concert poster coming at him. Back half is a picture of the band (headshots) and setlists. Later pressings are nearly identical, but the printed wrapper is white with light purple printing, lacking a lot of detail (read: xerox). The album jacket is a reversed, unused jacket from some other record (!), and there is no LP with an orange label. Original LP pressing done by the Dansker Fanklubbe Grammofone Kolletiv/Kopenhavn, Danmark. Matrix PF400 (ABCD). * Pink Floyd roio database, (www.pf-roio.de) Total Disc Time: Side one: 1.) Notes: I transferred Jon Wizardo's original California Stockyard cassettes in October 2020 and his recording is a lot more complete than the vinyl version everyone has been listening to for the past 43 years. This is a raw release, with the exception of a few fireworks which were tamed using de-clip in iZotope. The pops and other noises some people thought were pressing problems are on the master and I have not attempted to tackle them. I believe that some of these sounds are caused by rain. No speed correction was necessary. The Technics RS-B565-MH is a deck modified by vince666. I recommend playing Jon's capture on headphones or sitting close to your speakers to fully appreciate the movement in this recording. The stereo/quad effects are quite pronounced in some songs, possibly more so than any other tape I've heard from this period. Side A ends with track four. Jon performed a quick flip from side A to B, with some incomplete rewinding or fastforwarding, so didn't use the full length of the first tape. He then missed the end of Welcome To The Machine at the end of side two. Side three starts with Have A Cigar and ends with Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 6-9). Jon then had time to rewind to the beginning of side four for the Money encore. Neonknight, December 2020

He then missed the end of Welcome To The Machine at the end of side two. Side three starts with Have A Cigar and ends with Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 6-9). Jon then had time to rewind to the beginning of side four for the Money encore. Jon probably used a Sony TC-153SD with a Sony ECM-99, a one-point stereo electret condenser mic, to make his recording. The TC-153SD was top of the range at the time and had two microphone sockets. The ECM-99 used one battery and had two jacks. It was known for having good stereo imaging and was also used by Mike Millard and Dan Lampinski. I rarely work on masters so additionally transferred the tapes a couple of times to reel to reels using my quarter inch Revox A77 MKIV at 7½ips. I mention this because, to my surprise, these copies have become my go-to versions, demonstrating how injecting some additional analogue magic using a mid-1970s mastering machine can have its virtues, despite the addition of a tape generation. A good sign for other first gen reels of Floyd audience recordings, I think.
