Notes: --------- Reworking --------- Nota : please note that i did not reedit the CD exactly like the original insert, the only difference was that i linked the "Closing Theme" with "Can't Help Falling In Love", as the last track was less than a minute long. You can easily cut again the last track in two, using CD Wave Editor. when i heard for the first time the CD, i noticed that the left channel was far better than the right one. As it was a mono recording, i made a few samples : - with the right channel a bit higher, - a new version using only the right channel, - a new version using only the left channel. After hearing those versions for around 5 minutes, i decided that the new version using only the left channel far the better of the three without any doubt. I normalized the gig only a few times, when the sound level was too loud. The tape used here don't have any hiss (or it is almost not noticable), which is really rare for soundboards. ----------------------------------------- On Tour 1974 : March 1 - March 20, 1974 ----------------------------------------- Some datas may be incorrect, please contact me if you see any error, or if you can complete or add any relevant information about that venue/period/gig/set/songs. Thanks for your comprehension and help and sorry for the average English. 1974 : this year Elvis played a lot of gigs ! - spring season in Las Vegas (January - February) : 29 shows - On Tour (Middle East, March) : 25 shows - On Tour (California, May) : 5 shows - summer season in Lake Tahoe (May) : 22 shows - On Tour (Middle East, June - July) : 25 shows - summer season in Las Vegas (August - September) : 29 shows - On Tour (Middle East, September - October) : 15 shows Most ot the time, Elvis played 2 gigs a day. Many of those gigs were protaped, and recordings done by audience members were more and more common. On that tour, RCA released only one gig, the closing show in Memphis on March 20, 1974. The first release on CD (with the same material as the original LP) of "Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis" was the japanese one in 1986, and included less than 45 minutes of the original show. In 2004, FTD re-released the almost complete 70 minutes gig with a poor mixing. I did not worked the two CDs together for now, but i will do that, and maybe use the complete soundboard version released by Fort Baxter in the bootleg CD "Steamroller Blues". Many fans have reviewed very closely those materials, please check the links below. -------- The gig -------- This is the 19th of 25 shows done in March 1974, and the first gig in Memphis since the two charity gigs performed here on February 25, 1961. Elvis will play 2 shows on March 16, again 2 the day after, and will end with a closing show on March 20. The present show is the afternoon performance (2.30 pm) of March 16. It seemed that a lot of young women were in the audience, the "Elvismania" can be clearly heard during the 1 hour show. The performance ? Excellent, period. Each songs is well delivered (thanks also to the excellent mix of the instruments and vocals), and Elvis made a few jokes. The young and fanatic audience is waiting every word of the King in silent before exploding. "Johnny B. Goode" will be not performed during the closing show on March 20. I wanted to point out some highlights, but well too many to count... "Fever" must be heard ! The Rock Legends CD is a must have. The original pressing is now hard to find. That torrent may be a good alternative, as the sound was normalized. It is also a good start for a more complete remastering. Quality : 9.5+ / 10 Again, you will find reviews on the links below. As usual, i do not advise to buy bootlegs, especially Elvis Presley live releases, as many are really really crap (bad sound and/or performance, incomplete, edited...). As "Follow That Dream" is releasing studio sessions and live concerts, take a look on their website and on the various reviews done by fanatics. You will be sure to find what you want. --------------------------- Sources & links of interest --------------------------- Elvis Presley : official website http://www.elvis.com Elvis Presley : official live CDs http://www.followthatdream.com Elvis Presley : up-to-date news http://www.elvisnews.com/Presentation/Functional/Page/Default.aspx http://www.elvisunlimited.com http://www.elvis.com.au Elvis Presley : tour dates, setlists & releases http://www.elvisconcerts.com Elvis Presley : official & unofficial live discographies, reviews http://home.online.no/~ov-egela http://www.elvis-collectors.com http://www.elvisoncd.com -------------------------------- Something to do -------------------------------- If you liked that recording, you have the choice to SUPPORT DIME and make a donation, but you also can buy the recent FTD gigs… ^_^ Hope friends and foes will like it.
