This is a terrific sounding seed, but a real train wreck of a show. Almost every song has flubbed lyrics, bad chords, missed changes, or some other glaring mistake. Even Bob can't seem to remember any of his songs. And what's with a 4 minute Slipknot? The nice Spoonful/Smokestack jam after Truckin' is the only real highlight, but unfortunately, most of it is missing from the SBD source and patched with the aud.

The previous comment is completely off base, as anyone who attended could tell you. This was a top 10 show for me (out of ~290). That "only" 4 minute Slipknot was 4 of the most intense minutes of my life. That said, the sbd is missing some great crowd reactions (gasps and exhales) as Phil drops massive bombs. Great show.

Well, I'm certainly glad you had a good time, but there is a HUGE difference between being a great show to have been at and a great show to listen to a recording of 20+ years later. At the time, Help > Slipknot was the hot revival that everyone wanted to get. Just hearing it would have been a great moment, despite that this one is the weakest (or I should say "least excellent", as I don't think there is a "weak" H > S > F...) version I've ever laid ears on. Couple that novelty with some good acid and that nice jam out of Truckin', and that would have been enough for me to be more than satisfied at the show.

However, 20 years later, a Spring 83 Help > Slipknot is no longer a novelty, and thanks to the wonderment of the Llama, we are afforded the ability to choose from 95% of all of the 80s shows to listen to, so we can be more discerning about the actual quality of the play, and this one features more blatant miscues that any other show I've ever heard. A blown lyric or two can give a show character, but once it gets to be 5 or 6 or 7 blown or mumbled verses plus several missed chord changes, it is out of hand.

If you're a fan of laughing at a band screwing up their own songs, this is certainly the show for you. If not, look elsewhere, as there are MUCH better performances than this, even in the same tour. If you want me to go back and document all of the f-ups, I'll do it, although it will be painful to have to listen to this one all the way through again.

I was at this show (did the whole tour) and I too thought that it was great. I think it was one of those "you had to be there" things...cm

I have to say I for one an ESTATIC that the sbd has surfaced. I have every audience copy of this show I could find (5 of 'em) and was never thrilled with the quality. Beside that this was were I met my wife (of 18 years now) I remeber this show as having tremendous energy. There was dancing 15 people deep at every entrance and EVERYONE was on thier feet inside. I think the band didn't know what to do with all the energy, opening show of the east coast tour, who cares if the flubbed a lyric or 10, this wasone of "THOSE" shows. The energy in the air was palpable, you could almost reach out and touch it. I think if you want perfect recordings and perfect performances, neither aud or abd should be your choice. Why complain, if ya weren't there and you didn't tape it, be happy it's available!

There is a hint of Cosmic Charlie right before Black Peter, pretty cool.
