i notice what seems to be much more than a *level drop.* sounds much more like an audience splice to me. starts in 'throwing stones' and continues through most of 'every little light.'

I agree about the aud splice. I got the SBD on tape in Sept. '95 and the portion in question was missing entirely, so the aud splice makes sense.

I may be able to shed some light on this recording, as I was there and was one of 3 tapers that I know of at the show. My buddy Chris and I each had Sony D7s. Chris had a pair of core sounds mics stealthed onto his eyeglasses, and I had a shotgun mic about 10 feet to the left of the soundboard. A third person was able to get a soundboard patch.

The Core Sounds recording came out fairly decent, my recording came out terrible, and the SBD patched recording sounded great with the exception of several dropouts and distortions due to having the levels set to high. I believe there was also a dropout for the first minute of Bombs Away.

Later that night, the local news ran a segment on the show and ran the Bobby's introductory remarks spliced with the first few lines of "Bombs Away." I obtained a copy of that tape from the news channel, and we sent all three sources (the SBD, the coresounds & the VHS tape) to a volunteer from r.m.gdead who spliced the whole thing together for us.

This is probably the version that still circulates. In fact, I found someone selling a bootleg CD of this show at a flea market and gave it a listen. It was indeed from this very source!
