Basic Rules and Guidelines for using db.etree.org

Following these guidelines will help keep the data on db.etree.org cleaner and make using db.etree much easier for you.

  • db.etree.org is a database of Shows (setlists telling who played what, when, where, etc.) and a database of lossless SHN/FLAC Sources (particular recordings of Shows) for certain trade-friendly artists. If it's not music (spoken word counts), or about music, it doesn't belong here.
  • Your db.etree list is just a snapshot of the master list of Shows and Sources that you add to your list. When you add a new Show to the database, all you add is the basics: who, what, when, where, etc. When you add a new Show to your list you can add information about where it came from, what it sounds like, etc.
  • Don't try to add a new show to the database until you've used the [Query Complete Database] page to make SURE that it's not already in there. The [Browse Shows Owned by Users of this site] page is cached and you may be the only person to own a copy of the show in question, so it may not show up there.
  • Make sure you enable cookies in your browser. If you do not, you will not be able to log in.
  • When giving the url to your list, always use the UrlShortCuts
  • Use American style dates -- mm/dd/yy, not European ones (dd/mm/yy). If you're European, we're sorry.
  • NEVER add an artist name like 'Dave Matthews Band Videos'. This data is redundant and it will be merged into the real artist, in this example 'Dave Matthews Band'. Instead of trying to list your videos using an artist name, use the Media Type field. You can also maintain separate video lists using the handy MultipleLists feature. Also, you can specify you trade VCD's or videos using the media types on the UpdateYourUserInformation page.
  • Don't create multiple user id's just so you can separate your media types. Instead, use the MultipleLists functionality
  • It's best to post any questions or problems in the [forums] but only AFTER reading these documents to look for an answer your problem. If you can't find what you need, e-mail us at db@etree.org.
  • Don't make fun of someone because they collect Dave Matthews Band shows (or any other artist).
  • Check out the GetRecommendations page. It's really, really cool.
  • Check the Comments about potential trading partners to aid your screening. Leave a truthful comment about a trading partner after your deal goes down. The feedback helps good traders and hinders bad traders.
