Notes: John Lee Hooker 3-11-1992 Sweetwater's Mill Valley, CA. Source: 'liberated' bootleg - somehow I doubt the last 2 songs are from the same date/source. Note: .shn files and md5 renamed to etree.org standard 6/01 on fayetteville.etree.org Disc 1 ------ 1. Ride Johnny Ride (w/John Hammond) 2. Crawling King Snake (w/Ry Cooder) 3. I'm In The Mood (w/Bonnie Raitt) 4. You Give Me So Much Trouble (w/Johnny Johnson) 5. Born For Good Luck (w/Robert Cray) 6. Higher And Higher 7. Boogie Chillen (w/Eric Clapton) 8. Red House (w/Booker T.) 6/23/01 A few years ago I came across a John Lee Hooker recording. John Lee was very vocal about being ripped off by record companies over the years, so I have resisted sharing it, though it may already be in wide circulation. Honestly, I am not sure where I got it. -- A couple of weeks ago I met a guy at an after party party. He jammed along with just about every tune that played on the jukebox. This guy had soul. Fun party. -- Thursday night I decided to burn seven copies of the CD and give them away. Put 'em in my pocket and headed out to the bar. The guy from the party was there, & I gave him one. He was devastated. John Lee was a very close friend of his, and he was just on his way to John Lee's house to be with his friends and family. It made my night that he appreciated the CD so much. -- The next night I stopped by the bar again, soul man was there. He told me stories about the night with friends and family of John Lee, mostly how they all spent the last ~24 hours sharing stories about his life and listening to his music. The CD I gave to him was very much appreciated by them, and my friend said that it was the only live recording they had to play. He thanked me, and said I must have been an angel sent by John Lee to share that disc, at that time, and that place. I could barly contain my emotion. -- I had wanted to share that disc, but I resisted because I wasn't sure about John Lee's feelings about the issue, and with the source unknown and all. I had decided to just give away the seven discs and that was it, in honor of his life and music, to share them with folks that cared. -- I asked the soul man what he thought about my moral dilema. Should I share this with the world, with my kindred spirits who love John Lee's music? He said that this disc, a recording of John Lee playing with various friends, was sent through me and him to John Lee's friends and family on the day he died. -- He said flat out that he felt this disc was sent by John Lee himself and that it should be shared. -- So now I have a problem. My server is bogged down with the JBG/Booker show. I am busy as hell with other projects too. I need some volunteers to help spread this disc. The here is the disc info: -- Share John Lee's music and remember his life. That's what his friends and family did when they listened to this disc.
