There are some that etree doesnt have the SHN info for that I do have backed up as FLAC or SHN.? 03/16/06 L'Olympia Paris France 3 cd This gig at the Olympia was the 2nd Parisian gig of the 2006 "On An Island" European Tour (David played the evening before at the Grand Rex Theatre, not far from the Olympia). The concert at the Olympia had some particularities that made that show very unique. Firstly, David invited Sam Brown to sing The Great Gig In The Sky, as she was in town that night to perform with Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, at the Trabendo. She performed during the 1st set, just after "The Blue", and probably left the Olympia just after the song, to fulfill her obligations with the Jools Holland band... Just after this nice surprise, some French people in the audience began to wish a happy birthday to David, who turned 60 just 10 days earlier, on March 6th. Then most of the audience sang the famous "Happy Birthday" song to David. A third particularity of the Olympia gig is due to a big larsen problem during "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", at the beginning of the first verse. David stopped, and after the problem was identified (refer to the title of the RoIO ;-)), David restarted the song from the beginning! Furthermore - probably to avoid to play twice the same solos during the same concert - he did totally improvised lines during the intro, and also during the first electric solo just after Syd's Theme! This performance of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" at the Olympia is therefore a very unique version, with alternate solos, almost totally improvised and very exciting to hear! The Olympia concert was also the first one where David played "Fat Old Sun" instead of "Dominoes" (and he was totally on fire during the final electric solo!).

05/18/68 The Carousel Ballroom San Francisco CA 1 cd Mike Bloomfield: guitars Nick Gravenites: vocals Buddy Miles: drums, vocals Barry Goldberg: keyboards Harvey Brooks: bass guitar Kerbie Rich: baritone sax Marcus Doubleday: trumpet, flugelhorn Peter Strazza: tenor sax This three day run at The Carousel Ballroom was a feast for horn section fans, featuring Pacific Gas & Electric, Electric Flag and Don Ellis and His Orchestra. Due to popular demand, a matinee show was added. Although Electric Flag was the headliner for these shows, they opted to go on second to allow Don Ellis and His Orchestra to close the shows. These sets feature the original lineup, toward the end of founder, Michael Bloomfield's, involvement. He would depart shortly thereafter, leaving the band to struggle onward for several months before disbanding. However, at this point the band was full of fire and highly influential. Their unique blend of soul, rock and blues, punctuated by horns, didn't go unnoticed. Later that year, Al Kooper would create a similar band, Blood Sweat and Tears, and Chicago Transit Authority would also use this formula, both achieving far greater commercial success. However, it was Electric Flag that created the template and who were the most diverse musically. The incendiary guitar playing by Bloomfield during this time period set a level that few (if any) other white guitar players could match. The afternoon show was a relatively short affair with Electric Flag relegated to a half hour set. Apparently, Mike Bloomfield and Nick Gravenites were late to arrive and surprisingly, the rest of the group begins. The group uses this number to warm up their chops, while waiting for their frontmen to arrive. Due to Bloomfield's absence, this is a unique version that features extended sax solos and extra improvisation. This is a mix in progress until close to the third minute, and there are also some pitch problems evident as the tape speed varies throughout the song. Bloomfield arrives onstage during the last two minutes, but sits out until the next number. After several minutes of getting Bloomfield tuned up and situated, they tear into the old traditional, "Milk Cow Blues." Nick Gravenites takes lead vocals and with no warm-up necessary, Bloomfield immediately tears it up on this funky blues tune. Giving Bloomfield another chance to display his extraordinary technique, they next ease into a slow smoldering rendition of B.B. King's "I'd Rather Drink Muddy Water," a song they never released themselves. Following a two minute guitar solo intro section, Buddy Miles takes over on vocals. Following the verses, the group eases the dynamics way down low, letting Bloomfield solo in an unusually delicate and tasteful manner, before building it back up. They close the set with their first single, "Groovin' Is Easy," Gravenites again taking over on lead vocals. The big horn section sound, swirling organ and Miles' fatback drumming kick this into high gear. In this mix the separation is very audible and one can clearly hear the nuances that Bloomfield is adding as a support player. As a bonus, Bloomfield lets it rip by adding a demented psychedelic guitar solo near the end.

I know for a fact that both the date and venue are incorrect. The Dead and NRPS were in St. Louis for two shows on 12/9 and 12/10/71 and this impromptu jam happened when they went out to Scotty's music on the afternoon of 12/10. I was there. If you listen carefully, at the beginning of Track 9 you can hear Marmaduke ask Scotty if he can use the phone to call for a taxi.

??/??/05 Jerry Does Dylan Compilation Various Various 3 cd I listened to as many versions of each song as I could download. That meant roughly 140 versions of Simple Twist and anywhere from 20-75 versions of most of the others. I eliminated those that didn't pass a minimum threshold of listenability and then gave full listens to all the other versions. My selections were based on whatever whims I had at the time. Basically, though, vocals were usually a minor consideration. Sound quality was a priority but not that it was what informed by final choices. The only thing I knew beforehand was that the 8/8/90 Tangled Up In Blue would be included. It is my favorite Jerry performance in any incarnation and the last five minutes are the greatest guitar solo I've ever heard from anybody, anywhere, anytime. It's also what got the idea in my head to do this. The only omission was All Along The Watchtower, which was played once (10/25/87) and does not circulate. I chose the better part of valor and decided against using the version released as part of the Pure Jerry series. Fully recognizing that I couldn't be all things to all people, I hope this works as most things for most people. As I was dealing with 19 different tracks from 18 different sources (mostly aud's), matching levels and segueing were somewhat problematic. I have tried to minimize this as best I could, or at least as gently as possible. Thanks to: Tol, who singularly made this possible. Zuma_Aiko Bill and SIRMick, who offered solicited help with the set lists. Rory Kallfelz, who came through big-time when I sent out a short-notice SOS for help tweaking the art. ??/??/85 Warren's House Antioch TN 1 cd Warren Haynes - Lead guitar Dennis Robbins - Slide guitar, rhythm guitar, backing vocals Mickey Hayes - Bass Guitar, backing vocals Mark Dever - Drums Tommy Irwin - Steel Guitar From STG when this was posted a while back. Hey man, My name is Brian Hayes and I wanted to let you know the deal with the Rich Hippies recording you?ve got here. My dad played bass for them. He and Warren got the band together back in the summer of 1985 when they lived together in Antioch, TN, a small county in Nashville. I posted a pic of the band at http://www.allmanbrothersband..howpic&pid=3567&orderby=dateD . The band's name was "Rich Hippies", not Warren Haynes and the Rich Hippies. >From left to right in the pic, they are: Dennis Robbins - Slide guitar and rhythm guitar, backing vocals, Mickey Hayes (my dad) - Bass Guitar and backing vocals, Mark Dever - Drums, Warren Haynes - Lead guitar, and sitting on my dad's anvil briefcase, Tommy Irwin - Steel Guitar. Warren does not play slide on any of these recordings; it is Dennis that you hear. This was a project that my dad and Warren did as a lark after they and everyone else left The David Allan Coe Band, and also to fill time in between gigs so they could make some money around town. They only played a few shows here and there before getting better paying jobs on the road. This was recorded in the kitchen of my Dad and Warren's house in Antioch, Tennessee with 2 Shure 58 mics, one on a stand about ten feet from the band and one on the floor on a pillow between the kick drum and bass amp. The vocals where recorded later in the bathroom and the "audience" you here is from an old live record they had, that they spliced in the crowd sounds from. I can't remember the LP used. The song listed as track 2 is not "Wild Fire", but is called "Bad News". There are not any other recordings, except for a possible show done in Charlotte, NC at a club that used to be called Harley Hog and The Rockers, don't know if it is still there. By the way, my dad was the person who found Warren in Asheville, and got him his job with David Allan Coe. They lived together until Warren was in about his second year with the ABB, and moved to New York. I am posting this to the ABB board too, so they know the deal. My dad and I where wondering where did you get these from? The only copies known were the ones he and I had, and Warren, Tommy, Dennis, and Mark. A few demos might have been sent out to some clubs, but not many. Just wondering. Well, just wanted to let you know. Thanks. For more info and some great pictures of the rich hippies check out http://www.richhippies.com
