I am deeply indebted to Seth Kaplan for this copy of this
epic show. I have had several different copies over the past five years,
and this is the cleanest I've heard. Notably, it lacks the small
clicks/pops in Dark Star that mar most circulating copies. It also
has both encores.

Known flaws:
There are moments of sound system disortion/buzziness at places,
such as the beginning of Promised Land, which are present on
all versions I've heard.
Specific glitches:
D1t07 (Rider): Subsecond dropout @ 11:14
D2t06 (Greatest): Subsecond discontinuity @ 3:36; may be
sound system. Brief bit of static @ 5:07.
D3t01/02: 2 second elision between Dark Star and El Paso

Currently, this is not the best version going around on CD. Reportedly, David Hollister has recently mastered the
best-available version to CD. If you have a flawless copy of that "upgrade" version on CD, please consider converting it to shn and spreading it around,
in place of this shn set. Thanks!

Right at the Dark Star > El Paso segue, there's several seconds of the jam
missing - chopped out! I checked my Bettyboard DAT and the segue is all there
and intact. But the SHNs are missing maybe 2 or maybe 4, 6 seconds.
I'm surprised no-one else has noted this. I suppose I can patch my WAVs
from my DAT... be faster for me then redoing the whole show from DAT...

me again. I just examined this show very carefully with Samplitude2496. Using my 8-27-72 Bettyboard
DAT, I recorded about a minute around the Dark Star >El Paso segue into a second track,
and compared. The .SHNs are missing exactly 2 second 2 frames at the track boundary.
In fact, all track boundaries in Disks 1, 2 and 3are also missing 2 seconds at each track
boundary! DON"T D/L this show from www.gdlive.com (thats where I got the bad SHNs from)
until there's a correct version up there.

For anyone following the story so far, I quote from an email on the subject from my husband Greg:

"The elision between Dark Star and El Paso was noted by someone months after it
was on the etree; I had failed to notice it myself (my fault!). That was
discussed on the etree list, I believe, and was noted in the info file at my
own CDR list.

[Diana's comment: I didn't realize that I hadn't put the updated info file in
the db. That is now remedied. My apologies!]

"I listened to 5-6 different versions of this show, and all had differing cuts
in the in-between song crowd noise, depending on who mastered it; none were
continuous. If comparison with a DAT suggests that exactly 2 seconds are
missing at each track boundary, it suggests that the original CDs had negative
index markers (not uncommon), and someone had done an extraction/copying
somewhere along the trading chain using a program like EZCD that does not
handle these properly. EAC deals with this correctly (and, of course, EAC
introduces no gaps!). The pre-SHN discs I have are identical to discs produced
by the SHNs.

"Of the 5-6 other copies I listened to, most had problems with poor mastering
from DAT, and virtually all circulating copies have numerous clicks and pops
in Dark Star. The one referred to here is the cleanest I found in this regard."

[DSH further note: That finding of versions was back before January, of course.
At present, it probably is not worth patching up this copy, since as I mentioned in a pub comment above, there is a Tiedrich DAT> Hollister CD
version out there. It's just a matter of someone coming forward with it for the shn community.]

The Tiedrich/Hollister seed is now in circulation in .shn and represents an upgrade compared to this copy. Thanks, guys!

The Tiedrich seed of this show is now on GDLive. Hoping to get the Orf seed up there as soon as possible!
