SBD>16 Track Master Reels>DAT@44.1K>DAT>DAT>WAV>SHN
DAT>WAV via Sony SDT-9000 DDS drive using VDAT 0.6f (see error logs below)
WAV was edited in Soundforge 4.0 (crossfading of reel cuts between songs, no music was disturbed except for Sugar Magnolia)
WAV>SHN via CDWAV 1.53>MKW 0.97b
The songs from the reels were originally edited down to DAT very tightly, almost no banter is present in this version.
Known Flaws: the first few notes of Sugar Magnolia were missing and were patched in from the circulating Gans CD source.
The following spots were edited using pencil tool in Soundforge (small bits of analog static removed):
d1t1, 2:18 - left channel click - smoothed, still slightly audible
d1t1, 2:20-2:23 - left channel static - smoothed, still slightly audible
d1t06, 2:12 - pop - fixed
d2t01, 14:28 - right channel crackle - fixed
d2t05, 3:37 - right channel click - fixed
d2t05, 4:13 right channel click - fixed
d2t05, 04:18 - right channel static - smoothed, still audible
d2t05, 04:45 - right channel static - fixed
d2t05, 04:00-05:00 - some other static, smoothed, but still audible
d2t05, 5:05 - right channel click- still slightly audible
d3t01, 0:28 - two right channel clicks - fixed
d3t01, 0:38 - right channel click - fixed
d3t01, 8:06, 8:11 - right channel crackles - fixed
d3t01, 26:29 - right channel click - fixed
There are a few other minor analog anomalies that were left alone:
d1t01, 2:02 click in right channel
d1t01, 2:26 slight pop
d1t07, 3:48 click
d2t01, 6:00 faint click
d2t04, 10:12 pop
d2t05, 3:36 click
d2t05, 3:42 click
d3t01, 28:24 click
d3t04, 5:10-7:50 intermittent analog buzzing in right channel
There's probably some more to be found, however, all are quite minor

How does this copy compare quality-wise to the version at gdlive.com? Can someone help me with this?

the 8-27-72 on gdlive.com includes opening comments and band introductions on cd 1 that is not included on nycheads 8-27-72. Its worth getting from gdlive.com to get this b/c you hear phil saying "this is where we get off the best!"
sound quality wise they are very close.

For the record, the one currently at gdlive.com (there have been different ones up in the past) is shnid 2199. My favorite bit of chat is the the saga of the water truck. :)

While this version does contain close to no stage banter at all, sound-wise this is MUCH more enjoyable than the gdlive version. Both come from the same master tapes, but the mastering process on this version is superior. Vocals are back upfront, the instruments are crystal clear and balanced.

uh, where did you get the idea that the gdlive version is the same source as this? Please read the text files, folks. The reason there is no banter is because this version is from 16-track masters. The gdlive version IS NOT!!!

There are several SBDs from one show? That's surprising. I thought the banter was edited out at the RR > DAT transfer.

There are at least three masters from this night: 1) The Betty Cantor-Jackson reels 2) The Sunshine Daydream video soundtrack reels and 3) The 16-track masters.

To set the record straight for all the sceptics out there and everyone else: This is the BEST seed that is available now, yea it's a shame that there is no banter, but the sound quality is leaps and bounds better than any other source.
That's that!

Hmm, if you have to qualify a seed with it being a "shame" that something is missing from it that is on another copy, it's hard to argue that it's at the top of the heap.
"Best" IMO would be to have "the" primo sound quality version, flaw free, and with famous banter to boot. :)
Somebody nudge me when all 3 of those conditions are met.

Let me clarify my original statement. This is the best sounding seed to date with the clearest, non-distorted discernment of instrument levels, vocal levels and all around mix. The loss of banter to me is no loss, because with a little thinking it is very possible to add the banter tracks from the alternate sources and combine them in the correct places to create a full show. If one has not heard this version than I would reccomend finding it, listening to it coming up with their own conclusions, but a dollar says you'll agree with me.

Inherent in the term "seed" is that some generous, competent contributor has done the necessary digital prep work (patches etc) for general traders/listeners. Anyone care to reseed under Brian's suggestions? Thanks if so! ;)

This version combines the "dank" source listed here and with the between-song banter from the Sonic Solutions version. Most tracks, unfortunately, have sector boundary errors.

My question - if this is from 16 Track Master Reels, then who mixed them down to 2 tracks ? Dick ?
Also, if the other 2 sources are a Betty 2 track, and a Sunshine Daydream 2 track, then do these come from two different soundboards on site ? Or are they both from the same soundboard output (in which case the only differences should be the quality of the recorders used and the tape used) ?

I think it was mixed by Dan Healy...cm

I think it unlikely that Dan Healy could do this poor a mix. The drums and lead vocals are way too high, somewhat drowning out the rest of the instruments. (In contrast, the Serafin version (8045) has a good mix, you can hear the guitars, bass and piano much more clearly.
