This is an oldie but goodie. The sound quality is not perfect but what can you expect from an '85. I'm assuming this is a soundboard recording but I won't make any judgments since it wasn't in the source info given to me. |

I choose not to do any hiss reduction since the hiss level is pretty low and I would prefer not to do any unneccessary resampling. If you feel otherwise, go ahead. -According to "The Phish Companion", the venue is often mislabeled The Roma -JJLC is definitely the end of the second set as Mike? states, "We're gonna take one more short break" after YEM, but then Trey says, "We're gonna do one more song" so they begin JJLC. -At the end of Satin Doll, the band is trying to decide what song to play and an audience member yells out "Freebird" which the band and some other audience members respond, "We/they did it already." So, I'm guessing that Freebird was played earlier in the show. -Walk Away is definitely the end of the show since Trey starts yelling, "Last call!" and bantering about tipping a bartender before Walk Away. -Tape flips: d1t02 13:32 d2t04 10:14 d2t08 end Fixes: -Applied SF4.5 pitch shift of +30 cents w/ anti-alias filter to compensate for low pitch -Removed digizap in d1t01 1:17.866-1:17.898 (0.032 sec) -Minimized diginoise in d2t03 1:10-1:12 -- still present though (on all known copies - I asked all dat traders that I found to have this show to check their copy) |

Todd notes; tape flips between silent/chalk, and all things/hood. great show, nice fat sound :) some misc. dribble, babble since this was a special show in that after the show i got to hang backstage with the boys and thank them for fine music they provide! very humble dudes.. puffed a few with em, and watched as trey made sure the club made good on their contract of providing a case of greenies to go :) altho this was no big deal at the time since the scene was quite small, and the boys would often hang in the crowd between sets, and brad sands was buddies with the tapers since he was one himself when he was selling phish merch in the corner before he got the fulltime gig with the band. which i might add, that job was actually posted in the schvice! anyway, as we exchanged handshakes on the way out, i threw out a request to trey for Fluffhead the following night in richmond, and we were off.... and a great fluff it was! :) (apologies for boring everyone with this useless babble) |

Sweet Home Alabama tease at beginning of Runaway Jim Trey thanks Bill Graham Productions and the Phish crew, talks about keeping the spirit of Jerry Garcia alive through music, and wishes a Happy Birthday to Jerry Garcia. Jerry and the Dead had played many a time at Shoreline, and Jerry's birthday was the next day (teases of "Happy Birthday" and "Can't You Hear Me Knocking?" at the end). |

**fixed version** "Love Me" was For Elvis Week. "Merry Pranksters Bozo Madness" was dominated by the stage presence of Ken Kesey and The Merry Pranksters. Colonel Forbin doesn't meet Icculus this time but rather finds "Ken Uncle Sam Bozo Easy Kesey". At this time Kesey, dressed as Uncle Sam, appears on the stage and accounces that the Bozos have been missing for two years but are on Phish tour now. He calls one by one the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and Frankenstein (Phish breaks into "Frankenstein") to help him find the Bozos, which soon appear as four white things in costume. After singing about the Bozos which are doing interpretive dance, the Pranksters all leave the stage after Kesey hears the "Bozo Mockingbird". Trey comments that this is what happens "after you do too much acid 30 years later..." Phish had been playing background music (including McGrupp and Ghost teases) which had developed by this point into a deep funk jam. Trey announces that "we are supposed to start 'Famous Mockingbird', but the funk is too deep." The band continues the funk jam and eventually segues into "Camel Walk." |
|
| 08/16/97 | Loring Air Force Base (Disco Set) | flac | 1Source Detail | This was a latenight set during the Great Went, that took place the morning of August 17. All four members of Phish played keyboards/synthesizers (with occasional vocal forays), sitting on the back of an eighteen-wheeler, which was parked near the entrance to the concert field. There was a small lighting rig. Earlier in the day there were a few thousand rave-style fliers circulating ambiguously advertising a "Disco" featuring MC Neoncellgap, DJ LeMore LaLip, etc, and you can hear some announcements to that effect at the end of the set. Also of note : brief footage of this set can be seen during the film "Bittersweet Motel", during the Great Went "2001" montage | |

"Weekapaug" with jam over band "ooo"ing - basically a "Crosseyed and Painless" jam without the actual vocals. "Reba" with whistling. Piper jammed out a bit, all drop out except Page who solos for about a minute and then takes it into "Loving Cup". During which someone with a backpack jumps onstage, runs across stage, and is chased by Pete Carini. Antelope starts out with Fishman saying "The game is don't let Carini get you -- it's okay to jump onstage as long as Carini doesn't get you -- don't attack the drummer" and includes a chant throughout of "Carini's gonna get ya"; during which the lights go out and a glowstick war ensues. Pete Carini is brought on stage during "Carini". |

**fixed version** (thank you jephrey) Right channel had sudden drop due to a cable issue @ 11:43 during Down With Disease and returns during Roggae @ 1:32 . The left channel is fine. This flaw was fixed by cross-fading the left channel over to the right and back again, mixing it with what was there on the right channel even though it wasn't much and still sounds pretty mono. The transition is smooth as hell, you may even miss it. I also removed some duplicated audio at the end of set one... Tapers are talking, right channel goes out again (removed everything after the channel drops, about 40 seconds after the music ends). I also removed duplicated audio at the beginning of set 2. There was a segment of tapers talking from the end of set 1 appended to the beginning of set 2. I removed that, leaving set 2 alone. -Jephrey |

"Sweey Virginia" Rolling Stones cover from the album Exile on Main Street; only time played "Cars, Trucks And Buses", "Funky Bitch" and "Free Thought" with Michael Ray on trumpet and Tim Green on saxophone; both members of the Cosmic Krewe (who played at Tipitina's after the Phish show until 4:30am and covered "Tweezer" during their show!) "Cavern" included a one minute Sun Ra/Surrender to the Air type stinger to end the set and bring the house down Trey and Mike teach the crowd the Meatstick dance [first New Orleans night show in 4 years; last "Free Thought"] there are a few minor clicks in "Sweet Virginia", but the rest sounds amazing! One of the better 99 shows without a doubt. |

There is a *slight* burst of diginoise at 14:14 in d1t07 (Halley's). I recommend using an 80-minute disc for disc 1 so Coil can be on the same disc as Halley's. There isn't a segue between the songs, but Coil starts up *right* after Halley's. I didn't name the files this way though, since most people use 74-minute discs. |

"Dog Log" dedicated to Paul Languedoc; possibly played for a front row sign; after, Trey says, "in fact, he [Paul] likes that one so much, we're gonna play it again!"; band plays a few seconds and stops. "Do You Feel Like We Do" (Peter Frampton) tease (a banner was hung from the upper level requesting the song, which may have been played during the previous night's soundcheck). Trey called Page "Bob Mayonnaise." |
